Just aquired a 1941 Farmall model A with rear P.T.O. what implements are available for cutting a trench to lay water lines say 2 feet deep and also any easy way of attaching a three point hitch to use to level gravel and weeding? I do mechanical work on cars for a living, but I'm new to the tractor scene. I only have about 1/4 acre of graveled area to maintain, Any input is appreciated. I do have welding equipment available. Thanks

Hi,I have a 1941 A also, with a snow plow on the front I try to use as a bulldozer.I can push a little gravel taking small bites then I can back drag it out where needed. This is a tough little tractor.I love it like one loves a Harley. That being said rent the trencher as recommended by the other guys. You can rent a Vermeer small unit that will make a nice trench and place the soil neatly along side the trench to be replaced when done.Trying to use the A wont dig a trench unless you attached a Cadigger homemade backhoe or some such thing that would take time and money to build.

I agree with El Toro. For $100 or less you can rent a trencher that will dig a nice, neat trench. Check your local codes, unless you live in the south, two feet is not deep enough -- in Kansas it's at least 5 feet, deeper in the northern states.

I would rent a trencher to bury those water lines.
If you're in a cold climate area you may want to
go deeper than 2 feet.

Get someone that supplies your utilities to check
for any buried wires or gas lines before you did.

I had an A Farmall with a moldboard plow. It would only plow 8 or 10 inches deep. Ideal for
planting crops. Hal

A 2 foot deep trench with an A is likely a little ambitious, but a leveling a grading blade was availlable for the A. It was mid mount.
