I see alot of Farmalls with the pre cleaner (the type with the glass jar) on several tractors at the shows. My question is this. Were they very common in the 40's or are they more of a 50's item?

Thanks,
Mark

They were more common in the late 40's or 50's, perhaps. BUT, I have a 41 H and a 48 C with one, the 41 may not be original. My dad had a 47 H that had one when new. Conversely I also have a 50 C and a 53 Super A with the mesh cap.

On the farmall letter series you could get two diffrent types of air cleaner caps the mushroom mesh cap which was stock. The fancy special order air cleaners with the Ball Special half pint canning jar. You could get the special order air cleaners a year or so after the letter series was introduced, like 1942 or 43. I hope this helps
