O.K.,This has got the best of me.I have a 1935 F 12,mid year production, that I am in the process of restoring.I've been watching for the color of paint under different parts and have been seeing red.Now I know that I.H. changed the paint color from gray to red in 36 and I know that some dealers changed the color after 36.If this was true here, the dealer went to great lengths to get the old girl all red. Now,I am asking, did I.H. paint some later 35's red or was the dealer that good ???

The way I understand it,in the later part of 1936 the farmall tractor went to red paint, how ever these were tractors that was in production and were actually 1937 tractors,All 1936 tractors were gray unless special ordered,1937 tractors were red

I thought the change was made with the comeing of the F series into production. The Farmall, or Regular was gray, and the F series was all red. I can tell you that I have a 32 20 here im working on, and behind the manifold and below it, and on that side of the valve cover is very red paint. evrerywhere else its GONE except where grease formed around the pto shaft and pully shaft, and its bright red there. The paint otherwise is gone, no decals exist either making me believe that what paint that shows is origional

The "official" date of color change was November 1, 1936. There are a lot of stories from people that swear they, or their Dad or Grandad had a red Farmall before that. Who knows whether IH painted some red earlier than November 1 or not? A lot of tractors were re-painted red after that date too.

One thing is certain: No matter what color you paint it, there will always be somebody who will tell you that it's wrong.

I say paint it whatever color you like best.

It's possable that it could have been special ordered in red but I doubt it. Most likely a dealer repaint.
