I'm looking to buy my first tractor. I recently came across an IH 504 (gas). The tractor is in good mechanical condition; however the gas tank has been flushed and coated and the coating is beginning to come off. Would it be worth buying and repairing the gas tank or should I let this one go? What would be a fair price for the tractor? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have a gas 504. It has a loader. Nice tractor, real strong. She has card issues and run rough but she is in retirement around the farm with the 3 other desiels so I don't blame her attitude. They are good tractor but today, at least around me in Massachusetts, all these city want to be farmers want 4 wd Kubota with loader and backhoes so they can kill themselves. I would say that tractor should go from $3,500 to $5000.00. The are good, heavy duty and there are a lot of gus who can work on them if you can't. Good luck.

I also have a 504 and live in Massachusetts. I laugh at all the Kubota owners with their payments. The payments are bad enough but I bet the wife also had to get some kind of payoff to make the deal equitable. Maybe a new kitchen, new car, or lots of jewelry.

They only use the tractors for clearing snow. I can pile it higher and quicker than any homeowner type Kubota.
