H fuel problem

I have a Farmall 'H' that has a problem getting gas. When I start out using it for the day it will run just fine but after a while it will sputter and stop. I'll get off and look and the inline gas filter will be empty. If I take off the hose on the tank side of the filter gas will trickle out and when I put it back on the filter the filter will start to fill up and the tractor will run again, but for a shorter while.

What's going on?

Check your gas flow out of the tank, could be rust or dirt blocking the outlet. Hal

Another posability is that vent hole in gas cap is plugged this can cause the symttons you describe.

You should get a stream, probably a restriction in the gas tank outlet, or if you still have the sediment bowl, that valve could be plugged. I have heard that some of those inline filters were not designed for gravity feed systems. If your system is clean, you don't need it. If you simply can't get it clean, it will help, but, IMO, it is a bandaid. Also check the screen in the carb that the fuel line screws into.

Had the same problem with the in-line filter I put on my H. I solved the problem with a filter with a third hose connection coming out the side of the filter. I use a FRAM G3499. I run a small hose from this outlet up around the bracket that holds the temp. and oil gauges and back down just a little. I held the hose in place with some silicone calking. The hose will not be visible there. That puts the hose above the gas tank so gas will not run out of the hose when the tank is full of gas. This way the filter will fill up full and it will not vapor lock for you. It has worked great for me. Good Luck!
