Could anyone tell me what the voltage selector switch on the dash of my 1945 farmall h tracor is used for? Or what it does?

Your generator originally had a cutout relay as opposed to a voltage regulator, the H and L refer to high and low charge, you could get more charge of the battery with it on H, although the normal position is L. If you now have a voltage regulator or an altenator, the switch has no effect.

I know longer can read what each position is for. There is three selections. Do you know if they are off, low, and high? I have always left it in the first position. Being turned all the way counterclockwise. I always end up
putting the charger on it every few months. It does still have the six volt system with a generator and no voltage regulator. I would appreciate any information that may help me. Thanks Troy

This is by far my area of expertise, but I think if you have only 3 positions, that they have nothing to do with the charging system, I think they are for the lights, Off, Dim, Bright. Which would mean that instead of a cut-out, that your tractor would require a voltage regulator. Experts?

If it's a 45 and has not been changed, it had a cutout and 4 positions. From bottom to top the letters were LHDB or:
Bright
Dim
High Charge
Low Charge

To the left of the switch.

My tractor is out at the farm. But now that I think of it. There is four positions. As I said I always keep it counterclockwise. But if I turn it all the way clockwise three positions the voltage meter needle will start jumping showing me it is in charging system. Does this help explain what this switch and its four positions might be? Thanks again Troy

I think it changes the rate for charging your battery. Hal
