What did the farmer who 'say' had a 706 with fast hitch and a fast hitch plow or back blade and then bought a 'say' 856 with 3pt and kept both tractors? Could you use the fast hitch equip. with the 3 pt. tractor. I know some of you real farmers probably been there done that. I have seen adapters to use 3 pt. equip. on fast hitch equipped tractors but what about the other way around? Thanks.....Fred

I went to the salvage yard and got the yoke and sleeves off a fast hitch. Ran the yoke up and back on the sleeves and wielded it solid added cat 2 pins used the holes in the end of the yoke for 3rd link, I don't remember if I had to drill them out or not. not the best but saved some fast hitch equip. Rear blade etc.

Hi Fred,

All I can speak from is from my own experiences so take it with a grain of salt.

After the implements started getting over about 12' wide, the handwriting was starting to become apparent on the wall. The fast hitch was on its way out because it just could not handle the heavier loads without some massive hitching going on at the implement.

So, it was a matter of gradually, over the years, switching to both three-point equipment and tractors while at the same time retaining enough horsepower in the fast hitch configuration to get the job done with the old fast hitch equipment that was still on the job.

It took us about 10 to 12 years to get everything swapped over.

Allan

the 540 plow that we had you could take the fasthitch arms off the bar and set the threepoint inthe tractor for cat 1 width with cat 2 pins, not sure what to say about blade

Thanks for the reply David. I was just thinking that here is a farmer that invested in equipment with fast hitch that I am sure the Dealer would have said was a superior system (which from what I have read was) and then the company drops the fast hitch for the more popular 3pt. I also know that there would have been alot of discussion at the factory so they could accomodate the farmer who had alot of influence in their decisions. The arms on a later 3pt IH almost looks like you could remove the ends with the balls in it and insert the fast hitch! This is just a casual observation that got me to thinking...Fred

I once thought that too, but those just allow the 3pt arms to extend a few inches to make hooking up easier. There's a cross-pin that prevents the 3pt arm from coming completely out of the socket, and the socket's a different size too.

You could get fast hitch on up through the 56 series, and maybe even on the early 66 series as well, but by then, they had long since stopped developing fast hitch equipment, and the tractors were a whole lot more powerful. You really needed to buy larger equipment to make use of the power.
