I have been approched on my interest in a Farmall C or Super #FC 36471 That I believe to be a 49 C. The owner Believes it to be a 52 Super C. It Has a water pump as I understand the Super C had. Has not been run for six years however the owner says it ran great with no smoke when parked. The radiator is full with clean anti Freaze. The air filter is clean. The hoses and belts appear to be in good condition. Overall it looks like the owner, who has died, Maintained the tractor well. It is straight and the tires are good with one new in the back and one new in the front. The tractor has a rain flap and a can over the rain flap. The breaks appear to be somewhat wore and the clutch was slightly stuck when I first tried it. I put the tractor in low gear and tried rocking a little to see if the engine would turn a little but no.

Does anyone want to take a shot at the value?
Is it possible if the engine was in good condition when parked that it is serviceable after being freed? Does any one with experiance have any suggestions.

My thought was putting oil in the plugs and getting lucky might not be the best course of action. Maybe pull the head right away to check for frozen valves and condition of engine. Check cylinder walls?

Any advise from your experiance?

Thanks carpenter

See how much he's asking, then think about it if the doesn't suit. I was offered a Super C for $500.00 with a seized engine. If it hadn't been
so far away I probably would have bought it.

Someone that post's on here recommended to me is to fill the radiator with hot water and pull the sparkplugs and squirt oil into the cylinders.
Then jack up one rear wheel and place the transmission in high gear and rock the wheel to see if the engine can be freed.

I've never used it, but I have used transmission fluid and drove the pistons out with a piece of hard wood. Some came out with sleeves and the pistons and the others without the sleeves.
I pulled the engine so I could steam clean the engine too. A lot easier to work on. Hal

and some came out

An Old Cars magazine stated to free a stuck engine put one cup of dishwashing detergent in each cylinder. As I remember this freed the engine up almost overnight after several other methods had failed.

As Jed said, the starter may be stuck, I’d check that first.

Unless you are in a big hurry to get it running, I’d try different penetrating oils and rocking it back and forth to see if I could get it loose. I have seen others post here that they use ATF in the cylinders to help loosen it up. Worst case is you loose your patience and tear it down anyway.

I bought a C from a dealer 22 years ago that was stuck and he was giving up on it. I got it home and got very lucky, had it loose in a couple hours just by putting oil in the cylinders and rocking it back and forth. I ran it for a while, but it smoked and used enough oil that I finally pulled it apart and overhauled it. Like Jed said, just because you get it loose and running, the rings still might be stuck in the pistons and not deliver the power or control oil consumption like they should. The good part about this was that I bought the tractor for about salvage price, and after rebuilding the engine, I have a tractor that was in great mechanical condition at a reasonable cost and is still running great!

Good luck!

I have bought several over the years that have been exactly as you have described. I have paid between $300 & $600 dollars each. Don't go into the purchase expecting the best. Even though the exhaust was covered the tractor could have been left uncovered before the cap was put on. Usually the rings rust to the cylinder walls and simply because you have freed the engine doesn't mean that the rings will work as they should. Once you have freed the engine you should start it and see how it behaves. If it smokes take it apart, hone the cylinders and add new rings. I have had a couple of SC tractors that had stuck starters and that is just a matter of pulling the starter.

You are correct in that it is a C and not a Super. Andrew
