Does anyone know of a supplier for repair links of flat roller chain? I've got a fairly old ground driven manure spreader (been told it's IHC)with a broken chain. Went to the local farm supply and they did not have the size I needed. Also, they only sold it in 10 foot chains, is it available in smaller quantities?

I found it!

I found a store that carries not only flat sprocket chain, but many other parts for red tractors. Texels Inc. in Wahoo, Nebraska. Phone number is 402-443-3482. He stocks many obsolete IH and aftermarket parts. He said the newest parts he stock are for early 70's tractors and implements. Texels was an IH dealer from 1927 to some time in the late 80's to early 90's. Keith Texel still runs the parts shop. He also sells toy tractors and has many in stock. Thanks for all the help on my search.

We have a place here in town that has , I believe, repair links and chain of every size there is ."Mitchell Iron &Supply" Don't think they are big into mail order but. You might try them, if they have it I can get you some and mail it. 605-996-2447 will get them on the horn.

If you find a source for the chain, be sure to post it here! I've also got an old(very old) IHC ground-driven spreader that's missing some links on it's chain(s).....course, it's also missing about 75% of it's wood, so it's not like it's a project I'm gonna finish this week...

you might be in trouble on this one. ihc made it's own pressed steel link chain. it is their own size. regular number chain will not fit.

Hi Randy,

Yes, flat chain has it's own and different sizes; not to be confused with roller chain. Different bird entirely.

I'm wondering if maybe the yards might still have a lot of that old stuff lying about?

yes allan i know the diffeerence between flat chain and roller chain. but on the old ihc implements they used their own size. i found this out the hard way when i tryed to buy a new drive chain for an old side delivery rake around thirty years ago.

Hi Shep,

Wow! Haven't thought 'bout that old flat chain in years! :>)

Any dealer that has been around for a number of years ought to still have it in stock back in a dark room somewhere. :>)

Heck, I'll bet Cowman has some of that stuff laying around. He'll need to know your size tho.
