YO, hugh. Everyone can brag about plow size, and what they can do with it. But horsepower tests are more believable than soil conditions and opinions. Bring it to Mn. where things actually pull hard!!!!

RDD: BP is right, but 856 is one of those tractors that actually exceed ratings. Most of the diesels did by at least 10%.

Was the 856 rated a 5-14 plow tractor.

RDD: Around my neck of the woods, 856 pulled 6x16 plow as I suspect it will most places. A 6x16 plow making 3.5mph will plow the same acerage per hour as a 5x16 plow doing 4.4 mph. Your wear and breakage costs on the 3.5 mph plow will be about 60% of the 4.4 mph plow per acre plowed.

I plowed for years with 656 with 16.9x38 tires, no chloride and model 510 plow, 5x16. Speed does not make money doing tillage. I have a neighbor, pulled a 5x16 trailer plow with a Cockshutt 570, 50 dhp at most.

There were 4 blocks used on 856's I had a C4 block They were rated as 5-14/ 5-16 bottom plow tractors in our area. My tractor had a little over 100 hp stock. I turboed and cranked pump after put TD 15 injecters in. This was 30 years ago. It dynoed 198 hp. ran it by pyro for many years. Loved that tractor.
