986 with no 3pt?

I was looking at a 1086, but it has been sold. Now I am going to look at a 986, but the man who owns it says it has no 3pt hitch and came this way from the factory. Do you think that is a very common thing on these tractors? I have never seen one without a 3 pt hitch. It didn't just get taken off at one point did it? I haven't got a price yet, but it is supposed to be in good condition, 80% rubber front and rear, what should I expect to pay for something like this? I really don't need the 3pt for anything anyway. Thanks

Thanks Ron and Allen for the replies. I guess I should have added that I don't need 3 pt because I already have 4 other tractors with it. This is not my only tractor. I want someting with airconditioning to pull the round baler and haybine with. I also have 830 Case, 970 Case, 170 Allis Chalmers, and JD 4020 side console, all with 3pts. I only have little 3pt equipment. Post auger, bush hog, blade, etc. No Plows or other large pieces of machinery.

M Nut,

The guy really should give you quite a price advantage if the tractor doesn't have a three point.

Might be a bargaining tool??

We bought our 886 new with no 3-point. I think not having one was pretty common in this area since I don't ever remember seeing one until we bought the first tractor we ever had on our place with a 3-point, our 484, which we still have and use.

I agree with Allan- a 3-point is pretty handy, and if you have one, you'll probably come up with a use for it sooner or later and be glad you have it. Then again, if you don't think you need one now, and you buy a tractor without, you may never miss it. We now have three large 4-wd "green" tractors, all equipped with three points. They hardly ever get used, since our only 3-point attachments are a posthole auger, a gopher poison drill, and a wire roller for fencing, all of which are better-suited for the smaller 484. Using the big tractors on these items is like hunting squirrels with a 30-30.

But Ron,

How do you pull that big 6 bottom spinner on-land?

Oh, that's right, I forgot. Wrong county. :>)

M Nut,

Totally none of my affair, but I think I'd keep lookin'.

Even you have no use for a 3-point today, there may come a time in the future when you'd want one.

The use of three point implements is where these old bulldogs shine.

Just my opinion,

Allan
