I have put together a propane 1942 Farmall H.It has never run better since I had it. I put on a 350 manifold and a 400 LP carb. 6-7 years ago I used it when it was still a gas burner and it seemed to use plenty of fuel (as much or more)compared to the other tractor I had (45 HP-1968 Jet Star 3 Super Gas Moline). Someone told me that the old Farmalls used plenty of fuel for the HP they put out. Does anyone know about the propane consumption of these models?

Thanks...

Some data which might be of interest to you are from the Nebraska Tractor Tests of the Farmall 350, gas and LPG models. This tractor was the next in the "H" series after the Super H, and used the C-175 (cubic inches) engine, which is a bit larger than what's probably in your H (but maybe not, if it's been rebuilt and bored out??). You should also note that the energy content per gallon of gasoline is not the same as that of LPG. Anyway:

Farmall 350 gas, 7.0:1 compression ratio (NTT #611): Maximum PTO HP: 40.71 Fuel use: 3.49 gal/hr

Farmall 350 LPG, 9.0:1 compression ratio (NTT #622): Maximum PTO HP: 41.53 Fuel use: 4.44 gal/hr

Hope this is useful or interesting.

Thanks... I think the 350's used a bit more but I have something to go by.

Farmall H's are the easiest tractor I have ever seen on fuel consumption. The LP's I have seem to run much more efficiently on LP. I would say that I get about 2.5 times the use out of a tank of LP as I would on gasoline.

Where do you have the timing set on the LP H's? On other LP motors we have, we generally advance it quite a bit.

I know most of the imes Lp has a higher octane. I have only run it a few hours on LP and it runs alot better that it did on gasoline.
