Anyone every repair a carb float using multi metal perma epoxy? It says it can be used to repair tanks and that it resists most liquids. It doesn't say gasoline specifically, but I imagine that gas would be one of the liquids it should resist. The guy at the farmstore said that he uses it to repair the gas tank on his 4-wheeler, so I am going to give it a try. It says it will cure in 4 hrs.

New carb float cast me $56 Canadian a few weeks ago, bought one for my 2N a year earlier for $16.

the only other thing I can think of to fix the float besides soldering would be perhaps small amount of fibreglass resin, or a coating of laquer if the hole is really small.

If the float is brass and has a small pin hole in it....I drill the hole out with a very small drill bit....drain the gass out,let it lay in the sun to dry out...clean and apply a small drop of souder.....sand off excess...works every time...

I repaired a float on a super h with j b weld last summer and it still works alright. There is a chance you will get to much on the float and it will be to heavy but worth a try. New float about $50.00.

Solder would probably be better, but it's worth a try-I think I have a couple of soldered ones, no problem in terms of weight -- unless your repair is is really heavy the added weight shouldn't make much difference, IMO.

Don't do it. The float will be too heavy when you are done and it will no longer float. Your Case-IH dealer will probably have a new float in stock. Replacing it is the only way to go.

I patched it and have it floating in a pan in the kitchen. It looks like both sides float pretty even. I might sand the patch a little bit to make it somewhat smoother. Also, I think I will let it sit in a cup of gas over night (not more than a dollar's worth) to see if the stuff for sure holds up to gasoline. If it doesn't work, I'll buy a replacement float. Looks like it will cost about $22 plus shipping. Seems kind of high.

Be thankful they still make new floats.....try finding some typical Ute parts that nobody makes anymore like the dreaded steering box parts....grille....hydraulic manifold.....exhaust manifold (underslung)...etc.
I feel thankful every part that somebody still makes (be it CASE/IH or aftermarket)...no matter the pricing. One day that will probably come to an end.

I don't know about $22 for a float. I guess if I was searching and couldn't find one, it would seem like a really good deal. Priced the fuel mixture screw at the dealer in town and it is $10. First though, he asked if it was a stock carb or a chevy carb. I wonder what kind of chevy carb would bolt on to a 300U?

That would be tough to fit a GM carb on a Ute.The carb needs to be an updraft and have provision for the governor. In other words...it would be tough.
