What all comes out with the injection pump on a 504 Farmall? I've changed the one on our 4010 JD and the shaft came out with the pump. But when I tried to remove the pump on my uncles' Farmall the shaft wanted to stay, so I didn't go any farther. Is it supposed to stay or in the block or do I have to remove something else to get it out?

The shaft is in the gear and has a nut to hold it in the gear and ya must remove the plate on the ft of the timing cover to remove the nut then you mustusea gear puller to press the shaft out of the gear or you can just leave it and go ahead and pull the pump off and before you replace the pump put the new lip seals on then but one must becareful not to roll the first seal when instalen the pump and you have to line up the dot on the end of the pumpshaft to the dot in the pump . As long as you lined up the two lines in the pump window before removal and you don't turn the engine while the pump is off all will be well.
