I have a 48 farmall H, that the lift all pump input shaft seal is leaking. I have a new seal and the pump is apart except for the driving gear is still on the shaft that comes through the front cover.I can see that the shaft is keyed. Can I just press the shaft out or will the key damage the cover by doing this. Thanks.

forgot something. Always look form the seat. If the engine is running counterclock wise then the drive for the pump must be clock wise or right hand because the tranny drive drives the pump drive, one goes one way the other the other way.

The vet has a good idea, I have seen them tight enough where a 1/2" air wrench would not do the job.

You never seen my CP 745 in action it is real hard on 5/8th grade 8 bolts if ya let her work a bit . Years back i was doing some contract work for a old oliver dealer and he asked me to assembel a new 4 bottom plow that had just come in and i was in a hurry because i was leaving the next day for a sale out in Ind. and had no time to go back later and do it so at 3 in the afternoon i started on it and after breaking 4 5/8 bolts I had to take my air line and put it on a reg and cut it down to 90 psi to keep from breaking bolts the tool men keep tyren to sell me a new wrench and i keep telling them when they have one that will out preform my old one i'll by it it will even out do most 3/4 guns. Had that plow done at 7:30 and was out of there by 7:45 ,Old Bare never knew a plow could go together so fast.

Ok , here is how you make the special tool for pump drive removal (1) get a pice of 1/2 inch key stock and cut it to be as wide as the drive is round. (2) find yourself and old nut say aleast 3/4 inch out side if you are a good welder weld the inside of the nut to the key stock with the nut layen flat aginist the keystock if you are not a good welder then take the nut and key stock to a welder and have him zap it together then you use and impact wrench and buzz it off . Now this morning for the life of me i can't remember if it is left hand threads on that or right hand I keep thinking left. Need a second cup of coffee .

Zach The drive on the old belly pump is threaded on so don't try and press. You may have to put in vice with blocks of wood so you don't harm the gear then use a hammer and soft punch to brake the drive loose. Should be right hand thread, some times very tight. No key on pump or on the driver on the tranny.

So as I under stand it the drive for the pump with the 1/2 inch slot in it (same slot the removable drive shaft between the trans and lift pump uses) is threaded onto the shaft. Am I correct in this statment.
