Farmall H w/AC-Delco distributor?

I recently agreed to help my neighbor get his farmall H running. His father bought it and parked it in the back of the barn 20 years ago or so. Enging still turns over and has compression (whew!). I instructed him to purchase plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points and condenser, which he did. When I went to install these items, I noticed that the tractor has an AC-Delco distributor, so only the plugs and wires that he purchased are useable. Were some H's equipped with IHC distributors while others with Delco? Or did someone 'engineer' this together? I am more of an Allis enthusiast, so I know a little about delco ignition, but know very little about IHC equipment. Thanks for any help.

I've seen about as many Hs and Ms with the Delco as with the IH, maybe even more. If you are an Allis fan, you already know where to get the points and condensor, etc. They are the same.

The Delcos were an aftermarket up (or down) grade that many folks put on when the mag took a dump. I'll bet the distributor is mounted vertically, maybe even with a little kink in the hood to make a little bit of room for it. It was not a factory thing. Battery ignitions wern't available on Farmalls until the early 50's, maybe the Super series I think. I'm wanting to change my H back to a mag, but you can work with the Delco too.

I have a 47 M and a 50 C with IH distributers, mag was probably more common in 47, but distributers were available. Can't promise you they weren't changed, but I don't think so.

CNKS, that's an interesting concept. I didn't think that they even the IH distributor until later. Why would IH have offered both of them concurrently? It's not like one offered great advantages to the farmer over the other. I'll have to research this a bit more.
