SA update question

I finally was able to disassemble my Super A engine today. Obviously the last person inside this engine was less than a talented mechanic. Piston number 2 was missing one of the wrist pin keepers and the pin cut a groove into the cylinder, little wonder she smoked. You would think the operator would have shut her down and looked into the noise.

The serial number on the tag under the seat is FAA253480, which makes it a 1948 tractor, the engine is stamped as follows:

FCM G
14948

Any ideas as to what the FCM G is all about? Thanks, Greg

Hi Greg, Glad to see you're feeling better and have that engine apart. Did you make a puck for your sleeve removal? If I were you I'd put a new
sleeve and piston kit in with new bearings. It won't need it again until you're my age. My tomato plants are standing tall. I may put one or two in the garden around the middle of the month if the weather is mild then. We've had 8.3"
of rain in the last two weeks. I did till the garden on March 19th. Hasn't been dry since. Take care, Hal

Gene is right in that it is probably a replacement engine block, but it is off of a Farmall C. FCM is the farmall C engine prefix (FAAM would be on your original engine), the G suffix has been bantered about on here before general assumption seemed to be Gas engine. The blocks casting number behind the oil filter should be 251069. Unless someone has modified it in the past, the replacement sleeve set should be the 3 1/8" overbore Sleeve and piston set with a 3 5/16" OD where the O-ring seals near the bottom of the sleeve. It's worth pulling a sleeve and measuring to be sure before ordering.

The block probably came from a power unit off a baler or maybe even a combine.
