Air Cleaner Cover

Hi Guys,

I couldn't help but notice that this tractor doesn't have a cover over the end of the air cleaner like my old tractor did.

The latch arm holds directly against the outer filter.

I'm told that IH dropped the solid cover on the later models of the 966. Is this okay, or do I need to be scrounging for another cover?

My books show the silly gizmo both ways; with the cover and also without. Anybody know about this change?

Allan

Thats the way it should be, no cover. My 706, 756, 686, and 1066 all have the same filter setup.

By the way, help me out here. I can't get my filter indicator guage to move off of red. I've got all new filters in and have power on the left terminal of the guage but not on the right. What makes this thing work? Have I got a broken wire at the sending unit or bad unit perhaps? I've worked on this stupid little thing way too long. Migraine

Hi Howard,

They work just about like a fuel gauge does.

First unhook the wire and then ground that sender terminal at on meter with a jumper to ground and the should deflect one way or another with the open circuit vs grounded circuit.

If it does, you've either got a bad wire to the vacumn switch or a bad switch, itself.

Hope ya get 'er goin'!

Allan did you put the inside filter in there as well? If so you are good to go. The little dust cup on the outside should be squeezed once in a while to release all the tumbleweed and horse hair you collect during its intense operation. Migraine

Well, I'll be darned,

Just went out and looked at my 686. Stood on my head, held the flashlight in my teeth and cranked my neck in the most uncomfortable position ever to be able to see the goofy thing from under the hood.

But, that's the way it is too.

There must be a lip seal around the outer edge of that filter that seals the thing and assures that the air still comes in thru the snout at the front grille?

Okay, I'll quit frettin' over a problem that isn't there. :>)

Thanks,

Allan
