I got to thinking, when, if, I get to doing all the work I want to do on my SM, maybe getting the engine powder-coated black? Not dull but not too shiny either. Any opinions on how that could look? Maybe even get the rims powder-coated silver too. Maybe I should get the H done first before I go experimenting on the SM as it was bought by my grandmother (for my grandpa) at a year old as a used demo unit.

It's your tractor, if I ever buy it at auction, I'll have to get all the black off and paint it red -- Original color powder coating is ok, but you have to find someone who can match the color. Someone on this site had a Super A's sheet metal done that way. It isn't cheap, but it is more durable.

Just a curious aside, how hard would it be to get powder coat off? Never thought about that problem with Letter series. Dick Davis

We powder coat brake pads for automotive applications under the Raybestos name brand.
The cure test is with MEK. When cured properly, the MEK will not touch it. The only way we can get the coating off is with a wire wheel or sand blasting. Powder coating when done correctly is some really tough stuff.
It hardly seems worth the money you would spend to powder coat an engine block.

It's just a thought, I might see what the H looks like with rattle-can paint before I make a decision on the SM. The rims though I think would be good candidates for a powder-coat all the same.
