I am really seeing alot of tractors advertised for decent prices , but they always have the TA out on the low side. I have never worked on a TA before, but am a very good at fixing things. How much of a project is it to pull out and rebuild? Are there some times simple things that people may just not take the time do look at. My spending finger is itchy every time I see a lower houred 70+ HP tractor in good shape for a very, very fair price. Thanks

from the 06 series up its rather involved, split the tractor, pull the speed trans off the rearend. Can't drop it till you're out past the end of the PTO driveshaft either. then disassemble the speed trans to get the the t/a. I'd suggest some white-out to mark the gears as they come out, top shaft and order it came out, and DO NOT let your helper get ahead of you pulling the gears out. 2nd slider gear will fit backwards and if it is, when you take off, 1 and 2 work, but it jams going into 3rd. Then its all apart again.

we had to split our 1066 3 times we got the 2nd gear in backwards then i was on the road during that redo, then something else went in wrong but it only had to come apart at the bell housing for that one. That and our I&T manual doesn't show a real good exploded veiw.

I meant mark what shaft the gear came off of and what order it came out in on the face that goes toward either the front or back of the tractor(be consistent). Also it helps a lot to have a forklift or loader or backhoe because that speed trans is heavy, and the shaft that drives the pto goes through the hollow countershaft in the speed trans. On the 86 series it gets real complicated because the cab or platform has to come off and all the linkages are hooked to it.

And, I really appreciate your web instructions on the 400, because I copied all of your directions and changed one myself. Couldn"t have done it without you. Starting out, it was a nerve racking experience, but after doing it following your lead, I could do it again (but I will NOT do it just for fun!).

Kelly,

Boy...I gotta say...just spent the last hour and a half checking out your website...and you are a dynamo! You get a lot done, and done with one hand on your wallet....now that's my style!!

You seem like the kind of guy it would be fun to hang out and work on machinery with.

Well, good luck with the 300 project, and keep up the great work.
