The Steering line on my 856 has developed a pin hole leak under pressure do to age, wear. Does anyone know a repair method short of a new $100 line. Will braze handle that pressure?

Thanks in advance

i realize yours is broken in the column, and i cant remeber if the fitings on either end of those lines are a flare on both ends, or a fancier connection. anyhow, i broke both my lines behind the radiator, one end had a flare, the other end was a banjo type fitting. i took what was left of the lines to a truck shop that made tubes and hoses.they made new ones, reusing my banjo fittings for about thirty bucks. oh, the tube went into the banjo fitting about a quarter inch, and it was brazed from the factory.

You can use silver solder too, need to clean the area very well. Hal

I replaced the steering lines on my 856 several years ago. It was an all day job for a shade tree mechanic. Also, make sure you properly mark lines, it is no fun after 8 hours work to turn the steering wheel left, and watch the tires turn to the right.

I have brazed them before if it is not to bad but some times when ya get them out and start cleaning them you find that they are real bad and not worth fixen . The bad spot is probably under the rad.

Thanks for the quick reply
This line has a pin hole in the line located in the dash panel (behind the regulator) so it is easy to remove. I will try a braze then and see if I am lucky.

Do you happen to know the max. pressure in these lines?

our 756 always blew the line up near the front end. my uncle always had it up and running again in an hour or so. Test for more leaks by blocking one end of the line and putting air to the other, sometimes find more leaks than one.

Never had one go in the spot before it is always under the rad. Most people dont. clean them out real good up front and the foam under the rad holds dirt and moisture and it eats the line out there.
