Is your distributor installed incorrectly? If it is go to page 9 on this forum and look for Chris Willy's posting on a Farmall M that needed help
with a distributor problem and read my posting
if your distributor has been removed.

If you just need to check the timing and the tractor is running I use a timing light. You just
connect lead to No1 plug wire near the radiator and hook up the timing light to a battery. Put some chalk on the first timing mark on the damper pulley. Let the engine idle and hold timing light on timing pointer. If it is off loosen
distrbutor bolt enough so you can move it. Move distr slightly so marks are aligned. Hal

Do a search in the archives. There have been several step-by-steps written for timing an H.

Search for "Setting timing correctly on my 44 H" or "Tanner Clark" - have the results sorted by date and start with the "Setting timing correctly . . ." post. During this and subsequent posts by Tanner, who was trying hard and sticking with it, as things didn't work out, instructions got more and more detailed. I think you'll find what you need in answers to his posts.
