I own a 1991 7130 magnum with mfd. I bought the tractor with 3000hrs on it. We have a dairy farm so we do a lot of pto work with it. The first thing we did was put it on our chopper. The tractor would only run about 975 on the 1000 shaft. Silage would only go half way back wagon. The engine pulls down to 960 with just the chopper running, no load. I took the pump and injectors off sent them to the pump shop. Told him troubles. He adjusted governor, checked injectors. Tractor now runs 2500 rpm's which is just 1000. The governor is really touchy now, engine flutters a little bit when you push the throttle ahead but comes out of it right a way. Still under light load the tractor will not hold rpm's. Took it to dealer put it on dyno, 210 hp at 1000. If you drive the tractor down the road it will only make 2350rpm's. The tractor is fine doing field work, set the throttle at 1900 rpm's and grab gears. This tractor also consumes lots of fuel. 11 gallon an hour running lagoon agitator. 1977 1086 uses 5 gallon an hour. Has anybody else had this problem? Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

Are you sure all of your linkage is adjusted properly? It sounds like the pump man gave you a quick acting gov for your tractor which will make the gov hunt under light loads. I prefer my govs set this way because they respond much quicker than a stock pump. Without looking at the tractor I'd say you aren't getting enough travel from the throttle linkage. Have someone run the throttle while you look at the side of the pump to make sure the linkage is reaching the rpm stop.

I really hate to say this, but your nearest (or second-nearest) Case IH dealer is probably best equipped to handle this problem. It's your best bet for finding someone who knows the tractor.

I'm afraid I'm not much help, but I had to adjust the govenor on my 7140. Now I think at 2500 RPM the PTO is turning more than 1000, maybe even 1075 or so. Could it be that one of the two Rpm counters (engine and PTO) are reading wrong? As far as fuel consumption, a 7130 is almost twice the horse of a 1086. I don't know too much as I just got my Mag late last summer and haven't done that much with it

Well i guess that your pump man realy does not know that pump as well as he thinks now like i said before i am not the expert on the 8.3 cummins but with the fluttering on throttel up it sounds like plunger problems and it could be a bit out of time , now one thing that you should be aware of is that on cummins engines valve adjustment is critical this can affect power and fuel i know on the 5.9 those i know it will make a big differance. . Don't know where you are from but go talk to a Real Cummins dealer or have them look at it . If i had a book on one it would not take me long to figure it out.

about 75% of the magnums i have been around flutter when you bump the throttle.
you can take this out with a buffer screw adjustment, but it will not hurt anything.
3 of the magnums that did it sid it when they backed off the truck already.
a plunger will not do this, they will stick and then it gets exciting.

Now on a 5.9 when ya start getting a flutter the plungers are not in good shape and it won't be long before it is time to spend some bucks.
