Someone told me that I could improve the performance of my Super M (gas)pulling tractor by replacing the camshaft with one out of a 450 because it would give me more lift. When I started inquiring around I was told by some that the casting numbers for the Super M was the same as a 400 and 450. I would like to find out if this is true or not and if the 450 is different does anybody have one for sale or know where I could get one? Also would I need to replace the push rods or make any other modifications?

A 450 cam has a higer lift and longer duration than the standard M cams, its also has a different valve overlap and it does help increase performance, you can indentify a 450 cam by the left handed nut that holds the cam gear on. I have one for sale its 2 years old and was used in pulling tractor, leave your e-mail, or you can have a regrind on yours.

Thanks for the reply. I would be interested in your 450 cam. My email address is jchedder@aol.com Are there any other modifications that I would need to make with this cam or just pull the original one out and slip this one in (lifters, push rods ect.). Do you think roller rockers would give me a noticable increase in power?

I dropped you a email and ph. number, the cam is a simple slide out and slide in deal you won't need roller rockers.

roller rockers and such aren't worth much unless your competition is right where your at, then they may make the day. The gains aren't that noticable. can you get away with positive crankcase venting(pcv, vaccuum the block)? Popluar Hot roding(?) built a 350 lost 25+ horse turning a vaccuum pump (from baseline) hooked the hose to the breather and gained about 30 horse over baseline
