I have found a fence row tractor and can't figure out exactly what it is. I can't find any serial # tag anywhere. It is a standard tread, has nice rear steel and has cutoffs on front. It has 4 cylinder, but the carb and mag are missing. It has a cast one piece tub style frame. It appears to have a foot clutch on the right side and what looks like 2 gear sticks toward the center. It has the fold up hood but no side covers yet there are spring loaded clasps mounted at the bottom of the frame to hold down side covers. It has a "donaldson" upright air cleaner with a tag dated 1922 and is mounted right in front of the left rear wheel. I found a casting # of 885D around the clutch/belt pulley housing. There is some remaining gray paint under the hood. This tractor is a basket case. It would have many salvagable parts though or the tractor may be restorable to right person. The rear steel is very good. I'm just interested in what I actually found right now. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the comments. I would guess it to be the 10-20 simply because the size of the tractor is not overwhelming. The motor is huge compared to an "H" or "M". it must have about a 6" stroke. It is in central Missouri. I know this is a loaded question, but would this thing have a great deal of value? Don't know if the motor or anything else is stuck, but I didn't see any signs of major problems(big holes & cracks). As I say though, "it was parked for some reason".I enjoy restoring tractors and have done quite a few red, orange, and green. Never done an "F" series nor one of these though I would like to but this one may be beyond my abilities.

Sloroll, what is this tractors distinguishing marks that make it a 10-20 for future reference.

The 10-20 had a 4.25" bore and a 5.0" stroke.
The displacement is 284 cu-inches. Hal

The hood is hinged was the biggest hint. A W30 has a solid hood (no curtains)and the fenders protect the front of the operator platform more on a W30. They are about the same size though and are easy to get confused if the hood is missing. The carborator is a large afair on a W30 too. It looks like the F series carb. THe 10-20 has a smaller brass carb. This is a W30

Check the left side of the engine block just below the head of the #1 cylinder (cylinder closest to the front of the engine) for a raised flat rectangular surface about 2" and 1". If it has such a surface the serial number will be stamped there (I know 10-20's do, I don't know about other models). You can then check the serial number against the 'Serial Numbers' on the left side of this page to determine year and model. Good luck and let us know what you figure out.

Did you look if the serial number tag was on the front fuel tank stand on the belt pulley side of the tractor?

Just wondering...

It sounds like a 10-20 tractor. The two gear sticks as you described them is one for the trmasmission shifting lever and the other is for
engaging and disengaging the pulley and pto.

They were first sold 1923, but it was probably
being made and tested before date. We had a 10-20
made in 1926 that was purchased new before I was born. It replaced a Fordson that my dad never could get started. The 10-20 changed all that.
I could start it when I was just a kid. Never kicked and started very easy. Hal

10-20, 15-30 or 22-36 Of course the latter two would be larger in size than the 10-20.
