I'm far from being an expert (X=the unknown + spert=drip under pressure), but I would guess that somebody did buy this tractor new in 1976...but the dealer had probably updated a left over 75 with the new modern "stripe".
I've got to go up that way on Saturday. I'll take the seller's phone no. along, and maybe if things work out I can arrange to look at it in person.☺☺☺

Hi Rau,

That's usually what happens. That serial number puts it as a way late '75 or very early '76. I think those lines got a little blurry and weren't "exactly" a line drawn in the sand.

One time I bought a chopper that I know darned well had set on the dealer's lot for at least 5 years.

Was in a big toot to get the crop put up and needed it in a hurry. Dealer naturally went by the latest and updated sales price, of course. :>(

your book is wrong in 1974 they went to the red cab tractors on all 66 series tractors less the lower door glass and the side windows also were able to be opened and the black stripe tractors were only produced in 1976.

Jay: Well, it's certainly not a 1976. Looks to me like an older one, and someone has some artistic talent and imagination on that black stripe. Too bad he didn't get it right. Paint job could be the good part too.

Okay, I'll bite,

How can you guys tell what year it is without the serial number?

The only thing I see out of line is that white paint.

Allan: Here is my reasoning; Pre black stripe 1066 badges are still there. Ignor the black, and stripe on cab door, leave black over hood at front red, leave black along the side white, and you have a tractor painted exactly as my 1975 - 1066 was delivered to me.

You are just acting naive, why would anyone bother to paint all that white plus pre black stripe badges, on a true black stripe 1066. Take notice, I did say "acting". I don't think you are that naive.

Okay,

Seller says the serial # is 052984 and that the ID tag is located on the left hand side of the tractor.

That should make it a very late 1975 model, right?

Dunno,

Allan

Allan: There is a 1066 black stripe, no cab in photo adds this morning, didn't check add number. It is painted proper and with proper decals.

Yep, I know,

But, I've heard that the early '76 models and the late ones had the serial number plate in totally different places too.

Just thought that perhaps this could have been an early '76 and that the white and badges had come along as part of that 'early ’76 paint scheme' or something.

Dunno, just hope this guy is being up front.

Why in the world would anyone "re-stencil' a low hour tractor like that. (If in fact, it really is a low hour tractor).

The black stripe tractors were I think only built in 75 and 76 Many people put on blackstripe decals when they do a restore to look cool but I like them both older and the newer models

They are nice tractor though. My 1066 is in th eshop and every morning I walk by her and get on my 584 to fee round bales and say, wow, this 584 is small. I guess the bigger the toys, well, you know. Nice tractor and parts are reall easy to come buy. Just priced all the form hood gasket and all is in stock. That is nice.

Well, maybe that other post looking for a 1066 in Ohio will buy this one. I hope it goes to a good and loving home.

It would be hard to convince the Mrs that I need that when I already have 2 tractors more than I need. Coincidinkly, I also have 2 more than I store. Furthermore, I have 2 total. But I'm not prejudice, I love my C & my M equally.
