I recently bought an IHC two-row corn planter. The unit is in great shape, chain driven, solid hoppers and all mechanisms working. Any feedback on how to determine the manufactured date, model type and approximate value would be appreciated.

Thanks.

well, some identification of it would help us help you. Is it horse drawn, or tractor drawn, and this is origional, not what sombody has made to happen. If tractor drawn, does it look kinda like a horse drawn planter? Is it rubber tired or steel wheeled. is the only wheels on it the 2 rim presser wheels one per side, or does it have standard wheels ion front of it either steel or rubber, with say 12in press wheels in back? IS it rope trip or cyl lift. Is it mounted, if so, what model tractor do you think it mounts to?

The planter has two steel wheels, one per side. Each wheel is made of two seperate pieces of steel, placed in a v-shape. It is a rope tripped planter, several pulleys are still attached, as was a piece of rope. As for horse or tractor drawn, I don"t know, though there is a 47 1/2" tongue which measures 1 1/2" high x 3" wide. On the lead end there is a 10" gusset(attached to the bottomside of the tongue) with a "U" bracket for attaching to a tractor or pull bar...? The gusset has 4 holes to allow height adjustment. This tongue is definately original, as it is attached in several places and has the original paint. This planter has two runners/ blades located on the bottom. Would appear these served to furrow? The following are various part numbers I"ve found. The first one being off the wheel hub.
IFC P01646(not IHC)
1055AA
3569AA
3006AD(Located in bottom of hopper on rotary mechanism.)
1827AA
IH 620084-RI(Located on bottom "leg" to which "blade" is attached to.)
620318-RI
Searching through this site, I found a photograph of one identical to mine, this one from an owner in Iowa. His ad indicated he too didn"t know the production date or model.Unfortunately, the ad was only a photo and no contact information was provided. Thank you for your help.

yup sounds like 2 that I have. Ive had one since i was 19 and im 58 now. I plant corn with it, have planted beans and milo as I have around 2 doz different plates. Mine has 2 discs, around 8in dia that open the furrow, if yours has that, u didnt mention it. DO NOT overly grease the trip mechanism deep inside, itall cause you grief. It should have 8 grease zerks if I remember correctly. Mine has a IHC 2 row fertilizert attachment on it, and I have a hericide attachment ive never used as I dont know where you can find granular herbicide anymore. IT tends to be light in the rear end on sandy soil, even with the fertilizer boxes full. Ive added weight on the one I no longer use as it didnt have the fert boxes. You can build a platform inbehind the trip mech and put a bag of seed there, which helps with the weight, and is there if you need it. it tends to siide a bit on flat sandy ground, and probably would also on hillier loam ect. All in all, its a good planter, BUT It wont plant perfect spacings. It has 2 3 tooth cogs on the axle running under the planter boxes and a few gears that can be interchanged with the drive chain. I usually put in regular corn and drive it down the driveway so as to see what kind of spacing im getting. If you need any advice other than this, let me know

Also, the wheels are mounted to the outside of the planters, not behind or inline. The fertilizer cannisters are missing, along with the tubes and there aren't any disks attached, only the blades.
Any idea as to the age or model number? Are these fairly collectible planters? Thanks!
