It has been mentioned on this board several times that IH offered kits to retro-fit the fast hitch on SMTA's. Has anyone ever seen the promotional literature or parts list for this attachment? My SMTA parts book does not show any pages for this attachment.

I was wondering if the factory offered this kit immediately after the introduction of the Farmall 400 or did they wait until they changed the Fast Hitch with the Farmall 450.

The earlier F400 hitch would have required a special bracket for the rock-shaft stationary end or the inclusion of a modified trans-axle lid. The latter option would have substantially increased the cost for parts and labor to attach the kit.

Gene, it would be nice to see how they handled the hydraulics and get a picture of all the misc parts in the kit. I'd like to reproduce the entire installation on one of my tractors.

Wardner: Not going to argue too strongly on this one, but I believe the later hitches as used on 450 and 560 are all that was ever offered on MTA.

Hugh,

You are probably right. It would have been too expensive to do a proper refit with the F400 set-up.

IH could also market, at the same time, the F450 hitch as an update to the F400 tractors.

Wardner: IH were pushing fast hitch quite strongly at the time. I remember seeing new hitches at dealers, don't remember exactly what tractor they were for. I expect most of them were for smaller tractors. In my area of central Nova Scotia, IH were at that time, running a hard campaign with a new M-F dealer, who was indeed a very popular guy. I think IH must have put a fast hitch on every SC, 200, 230, 300U and 350U, in that part of the country. The hitch never became very popular with larger Farmall tractor users.
