Anyone know of a seat cushion insert heater (12V) that could be inserted under the vinyl covering of a deluxe padded seat (300U)? I'm not going to freeze my hind side again next winter, and I think a seat bottom heater would work wonders.

Paul: I know a guy who has a pair of socks with heat elements, complete with thermostats. He has a pocket battery, but also has plugins for tractor electrical system, when on tractor. Was just thinking maybe a guy could get a completely wired pair of trousers. Don't know about you, but my theighs get cold.

Buy yourself some snowmobiling bibs from Dennis Kirk (www.denniskirk.com)....they are made for sitting on cold machinery all day...many have a padded, insulated, waterproof seat built into them. Then you can be warm in your tree stand, ice fishing shanty, etc etc....and not just have a heated tractor seat.

Baked buns huh. Funny you should mention that.
My dad had a 300U when I was a kid. In fact I have it now.
We were in Indiana picking corn. Dad drove the 450D with the mounted picker, Grandad had the 300U pulling corn wagons to the corn crib. I got stuck shoveling corn in the cribs.
Grandad was complaining about the cold seat on the 300U a lot, so that night I wanted to help him.
After supper I went to the tool shed to look for an old sheep skin Grandad had on the Super H seat. I found instead an old length of heat tape from a water pipe. I was a kid and knew no better, but I wanted to help Grandad. I tried it on an old battery and it worked fine...not real hot, just warm.
I wound it around under a feed sack and rigged it to a switch taped to the throttle handle. I told Grandad to try it the next morning.
He really liked it. Dad just looked at me strange.
All went well until Grandad did not show up at the corn crib for a long while. I looked out to the field in time to see him running around trying to get out of a pair of bib overalls in the middle of the corn field and the tractor seat ablaze. Dad was running to help him and yelling for me to put out the fire on the tractor.
It ruined the 300U cushion seat and dad refused to buy another one. I always had to use it to plow...and boy did I learn a lesson. It was a long time before Grandad could set, let alone talk about how I had toasted his buns. He thought it was funny years later...dad never did.
I bought a new cushion for the 300U when dad passed away, but I still have that old burned one hanging in the tool shed. I just can't throw it away.

My wife had a aftermarket heating pad that was made for 12V in her old car. I think she paid about 20 bucks for it at WalMart. She used it for about a year and a half until we got rid of that car.

There was an after market seat I saw installed on a "M" once at an auction. The heated seat was hooked up to the cooling system with heater hose and the owner said it worked great.

Paul,

How 'bout a standard heating pad? It needs 110v, but I wired in a power inverter to my C for 110v Christmas lights and it works great. I found one just now from Northern Tools for $40...link below. One advantage to that approach is that you could plug in other 110v stuff later.

Other than that, I second the notion about getting the seat heaters from a junked car. You could even wire in the temp control with that approach...make that 300 look just like Lexus! ;-)

Wow,
Christmas lights on the tractor, what an idea!
Do you put a Santa in the seat?

I can just picture it now, ooh, wait, you don't have your Farmall being pulled by eight tiny deere, do you? Sure hope not!

Bill,

You betcha! I can get four strings of lights drapped over the whole thing, and then I haul around a flatbed trailer that all the local kids sit on for carolling. I drive it all over town that night, and it's a real hoot. During the rest of December, I park it on the front lawn and plug the lights into an extension cord. Lots 'o fun.

Make several turns of heater hose under the seat. And then hook heater hose into tractor cooling system.
