I have a 53 Super C with Touch Control, I want to clean the filter (I am assuming thats the drain were the filter is?) and change the oil. I have a loader on the tractor as well. my question is what type of fluid should I use. I have John Deere Hy - Trans is this OK to use? Also do I just fill the system back up through the loader resoviour (it is piped into the the touch control.) After I cahnge the fluid, is there any speical way to bleed the system or is safe to just run it??
Thanks for the help Andrew

Andrew: John Deere Torque Guard or Hy tran will both work well. I ran Torque Guard in Farmall for years. I personally think it is better trans hydraulic oil.

On your touch control, filling and fill to level changes dramatically when you have and added resovoir for loader or any other purpose. Your system now becomes vented through the resovoir. Your fill level now becomes probably 2/3 of that added resovoir with loader down and rockshafts in rear position. And yes, you just fill it through the resovoir.

Hugh, I stand corrected on the venting. I overlooked his comment about the attached loader. Thanks for straightening me out.

The filter screen is behind the square plate on the left side of the unit held by four bolts where the temperature guage probe inserts. You will probably have to take the steering linkage loose to remove the screen. Be sure to loosen the fill cap at the top of the unit BEFORE pulling the drain plug. These units are not vented and a small amount of pressure build up causes the fluid to spew forth violently. Hytran is the correct fluid.

First thing I'd recommend is getting a manual. Otherwise I'd say yes to your choice of hyd. oil.. That should be designed to run with loader hydraulic systems. Fill on the side of the touch control unit. Replace plug, run tractor, and move the levers back and forth about a dozen times, stop with the levers in the back position, check fluid level, and do bleeding position again if necessary to fill all the cylinders with oil
