1] Get a manual
2] Use a 10w30 quality brand oil.
3] Your M holds 8 quarts of oil.
4] Repair the broken petcock.

15W40 is fine, the filler is the large wing nut on the right front side of the engine, in front of the distributer.

John ---Rotella oil is as good as you can get.....however straight 30W would be a better choice in warm weather....20W in winter....you can pick up a new petcock at any big tractor show...I gave $5 for mine...you remove them with a pipewrench....the filler cap is a large (3")cap with "wings", so you can use your fingers....The plug you speak of is the tranny fill point....For the best manuals,,Call "BINDER BOOKKS" PO BOX 230269 TIGARD OREGON,97261-0269 Phone 503 684-0269 These are re-prints of the original IHC and nice addition to your M Farmall.....

straight 30 w year around with a quart of lucas engine stabilizer to keep everything lubed if you dont use it much or to keep the motor cooler and all parts going good. should take 7 to 8 quarts total..

The fill plug on top of the trans. cover is for the trans. and rear end only. IHcarl66 is correct for the engine oil filler. The Rotella 15W-40 will be just fine.

I will add that if the bottom petcock is non-functional, you can simply open the top petcock and add oil slowly until the oil just begins to drip from the top petcock. You may be slightly over-full this way but not enough to hurt anything. Do not add more than 1/2 quart at a time, and allow some time for the oil to get down to the pan before you add any more.

I use straight 30w oil valvoline oil filler is on
right front side of motor in between radiator and distibuter there is a 3" wing nut cap that is the filler they sell replacement petcocks but I have never put one on I have seen M's with dipsticks there is a spot on side of motor they drill to install, the petcocks are more original equipt though

I use straight 30W in My A and Super C. In the winter I use 20W. Andrew
