I recently purchased a t-6 crawler. The machine is missing the tag that is supposed to be in the left side footwell for the serial no. Is it located anywhere else on the machine? Also, how can I determine which engine. I understand it may be a C-248, C-264, or a C-281?

The T6 is a member of the 6 series of engines used in the W6,I6,O6,OS6, plus power units such as the U6. Same engine as in the M, it is a 248. Far as I know the 264 and 281 engines never appeared in the T series, but I'm not a crawler person, someone can correct me.

The engine # should be stamped on the side of the engine on a machined surface someplace. Don't recall exactly were, maybe sombody else knows.

If it is the same as an M and W6 it will be on the right side right above the distributor, near the front of the block. Engine serial number should be close to the tractor serial number. Also look at the date code cast into the block. It will be something like 5-26-O, meaning May 26, 1945. Someone on this site should be able to tell you what letter stands for each year, or post one of your casting numbers and someone can tell you what year it is. You should be able to determine which engine by which year it is.
