All righty boyz!!!!! ! Went to an auction today, just cause there was some ih stuff there, you know, see who buys and what it go"s for. lots of little stuff, on wagons, they had a 856,H with loader, sa woods b\m, 230 with lots of fh attachments. and a ih corn pickier in good shape, and a model 91 selp propelled combine. Well, they started the bidding on the combine, they were way up in the $1000 mark, it came down to $50, so dad bid, I never bid before, kind of scared, He said if you want er tell me how much, i said go a grand on it, so the bidding stopped at $700 Canadian. So know i got myself an all original 91 MCcormick combine!!!!! , man is it sweet, Just needs some wax to make er shine like new. Originall tires on it. You steer like a skid steer. The guy who bought it new, only combined 100 acres with it for one year, found out it was to small for his operation, so he hired a guy to do his croppin, so he had this brand new 91 sittin in his shed for what 50+ years, he took er out and did some with er every year. I think i got a deal, someone said you could waist $700 on gas and drive and not find one that shape. I will get a pic, wouldnt fit on the trailer we had. Now, does anyone know what years these were made, How mutch they weigh, and any other info on them. If you look in the last issue of redpower , in the center where the reader send in there pics, there is a 93 from Ontario, i met that guy today, he showed me how to run er. Man i"m so exited, now to find a spot for it and my thresher to. By the way, the 856 went for $7900, h for $2700, a for $2600. 230 for almost 3, prices are CDN, and the picker went for $25 , and it wouldn"t of taken much to get goin either!

What interesting posts about the 91 combines. They always seemed like neat machines to me too. I have two of them (with consecutive numbers) sitting in the shed that I am thinking I should sell some day. Seems like I have too many other projects ahead of them.

Back around 1960 my Grandpa who did custom farming in northern Mich. got a new 91. Before he was using 2 pull types that each had an engine on it. One was I believe a IH 78 and the other was a Woods Brothers. That 91 was the cats behind as it could out cut the other two with only one engine and not knocking and grain down to open the fields. It also did a fine job cleaning the wheat, oats and barley. That steering made it so you could turn in your own tracks. At the end of the day you really got covered with chaff. It was my job to grease it every morning and there sure was a lot of grease fittings! I also remember all the belt dressing we would use on the belts. Sorry for the long reply but oh the memories!...Fred

One of my first memories is of the dealer pulling into our driveway with a brand new 91 that my dad bought. That was in 1962. It was sold at our auction in 1971 after he passed away. They are certainly a different machine with the lever type steering.

Hey, I guess you got a deal. I paid $900 for a pull type Cockshutt last summer.

Now you are gonna have to sell off some tractors to fit that baby in the shed!

oooohh ya Mitch. all right man! cool find! that machine will be just like money in the bank for you. Hope you can keep it stored inside or it will go downhill fast. We'll be waiting for pictures. Hey! How about going on a harvest run? I'll buy an old IH truck and we'll take it to TX and start cutting wheat! I bet we could make gas and eats and have one h*ll of a summer!

Hey Kid, size is relative, yours is over twice as big as my AC All Crop 60 combine. I would trade but transport and building another shed would be show stoppers. Cowman gave good advice to keep her out of the weather. Congrats on your purchase. Dick Davis
