Might as well drop the sellers oil out and put your favorite oil in.At least that way you can know its new for your maintenance records.

On the side of oil pan are 2 petcocks. Keep the oil level between them.

John,

Don't feel bad; I've felt that way for 60 years, only in my case, it is justified.

Down on the right side of the crankcase. There are two petcocks. Make sure you have oil at the bottom one.

Allan

Having followed the sage ones advice, now would be a good time to think about a manual. Not being a wise guy, just giving you the best advice of all.

...Operators and Service, and a parts book. If you are going to work on your tractor, they will be very handy.

40 lbs pressure is good. check archives on oil postings- detergent vs nondetergent, multivis vs straight. Check on removeing oil pan for crank inspection and cleaning. Hint- 2 extra long oil pan bolts will come in handy when reinstalling oil pan- use as pilot bolts one on each side of pan, then use regular pan bolts while pushing up on pan lightly, replace pilot bolts last. Good luck, and you couldn"t have made a better choice. Old M"s are almost bulletproof, make a good three plow tractor, still small enough to pull that wood trailer, garden plow, or pull that odd tree limb out of the yard. They are easy and fun to work on too. Check back here oftn, cause these guys were all raised on the things, and some of them have forgotten more than some of us will ever know. Good luck, Harley
