Hello Everyone, Need some advice on the starter pinion gear. Mine hasn"t been catching for some time and now the gear is significantly damaged. First of all, does anyone have an opinion on getting a new one (aftermarket, OEM etc) and second, how do you replace this gear ??? I have tried lubing the "thread" however the gear is just too damaged.

Brian you should be able to get a new bendix gear from a Case-I-H dealer, or even NAPA if you can get a number off of the old one. The starter should come apart by removing the long bolts that go through the lenght of it, remove the clip on the end and slide the old bendix off and the new one on. If you can't find parts , Steve at Ontario Used Tractor Parts (519) 523-4922 will have good used bendix gears or entire starters, he is reasonable and will ship.....good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
