I getting real ticked off, I waited almost 2 weeks to get a thermostat and now that I have one it it seems to be operating hot. The temp gauge was over 200 - 220 degrees so I shut it down. Should I even of bothered to put a themostat in? It never ran hot before, It ran about 130 - 140 degress. What should I do???
Thanks Andrew

Are you checking the temp with a 50 year old gauge, or do you really KNOW it is running hot?

I found out the problem I feel real stupid to what the problem is. Anyway I was looking at the fan and it seemed to be turning slow but how can you really tell how fast its moving? Well I put my hand in front of the grill and I felt nothing no air flow!! On my A it feels like your hand could get sucked in compared to the SC pull. I think that would make her run allittle hot? Your fan should be turning as proportionally fast as the engine, thus your water pump should turn equally as fast. If they are not turning much but your engine is perhaps your belt is slipping. If you water pump and fan are both not moving I would say you have a problem.

New thermostats for a super C require an additional retainer ring. If the old thermostat was original it will be thicker where it sets in the pipeline than the new one. You can get a retainer ring to install with the new thermostat that will make up the difference in thickness. Without the retainer ring the new thermostat will not be held in place and can float around.

One thing that I would do would be to look at the thermostat shaft. It should be really smooth. I once had a burr on one that I put into a car. It would heat up until it got to hot and then would all of a sudden kick open and cool the motor back down. I just filed the burr off and it worked fine after that. Otherwise, maybe you got the wrong one? You will probably get it figured out eventually. Good luck!

Maybe a bad thermo or you could have put it in backwards.

I just took it out and it came dislodged in the neck. I'm wondering what the story is beacuse the one I took out looked far diffrent than the one I put in. The one I took out looked very diffrent, never seen one like that before. The one I put it looks like one that would go in a car or truck. Andrew

The one you took out may have been the original. Did it look somewhat like a bellows?
