I recently purchased a pretty nice 400. As I have started using it more I noticed it has an extra cylinder on right hand side of the tractor that can be used to tilt the 2 point. It is a factory unit, maybe not I.H., but definately not home made. My dad worked at an I.H. impelment during the late 50's and early 60's and he said he had never seen anything like this before. It has three control levers for the hydraulics and runs off of one of these. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

grubby: Van came the closest to telling you what you have. It's prime function is depth control while plowing, with a mounted plow. It is also designed level implements, ie. disk so both gangs cut same depth, just plain leveling others.

It is definately not a draft control. Depth control and draft control are very much sepatate functions. The 350 and 450 came with draft control but the cylinder you speak of was gone.

Both of my 300"s have the pitch cylinder installed. If you ever try and plow with a mounted plow you must have this cylinder installed or you cant get the right angle on the plow shares to work well.

Dad bought a 350 new with fast hitch 3-16 plow, and we did not have an extra cylinderlike that. Only the one to lift the hitch. Each arm ahd a turnbuckle unit to tilt the plow or other implement, but not a cylinder. A cylinder would be handy at time though. A lot easier and quicker then turning the arm.

Both my 300 and 400 have the double cylinders mounted. They work as a draft control and do a very good job. Both tractors have the 3 valves and I've seen several other 300 models with that feature. You can change the angle of the implements and height of the drawbar hitch. Migraine

I built a class two three point for a 48MD with this feature. it is very sweet for rear blade operation and precision tilting of attachments. I do not know any sources or kits. I used a power steering cyl from a line haul truck, with a 2" bore, and 10"stroke. your lucky if you need a fourth cyl a new valve will need to be plumbed in.
