Finally got the ole 'B' runnin but it wants to skip and has low oil pressure. New rings, honed the cylinders, re-built head, torqed at 80 ft. lbs., valves set at .017, new re-built mag, new carb, new plug wires, new plugs, new oil filter & oil, & got the timing perfect. The rod bearings and main bearings looked in good shape but maybe they ain't, huh?

Nothing to do with oil pressure, but C113 valve tappets are supposed to be set at 0.014 hot, you are a little loose.

Take the bottom plate to a machine shop and have it milled. find the clearance spec's and shim the plate to the recomended clearance.normally .001 thousands if I recall. The culprit is not always wear,it takes very little water to freeze and push the plate down preventing the pump from pumping good oil pressure.

Pull your pan and drop the bottom plate off of the oil pump. This plate will probably show some wear or warping. Take it to a flat surface and using Emery cloth work on it until you have it back to a true flat surface.

You will need to obtain a new gasket from your IH dealer. This is the thinnest gasket you will ever see.

This is usually the culprit causing low oil pressure when the rest of the engine is in good shape as it sounds like yours is.

GOOD LUCK

If it were mine, I'd do as John and Andy said. It's surprising how much oil pressure is lost around a warped pump cover. Low oil pressure is not likely caused by a bent oil pan because the oil pump pickup is not mounted to pump solidly(it floats).

As far as your skip I would recheck your valves. It sounds like you might have one to tight. It is best to always recheck the clearance after the engine is up to running temp.

Once again GOOD LUCK

Dixieland, connect an oil pressure guage in place of yours and see what kind of reading you get. Test guages are cheap and easy to hook up, maybe can borrow one from some back yard mechanic. If you indeed have low oil pressure start at the pump and screen, make sure the pick up is clean and there are no worn parts in the pump. They are easily rebuilt. Do you know the history of the tarctor, was it showing low oil pressure before the rebuild?. I'd dump a can of STP into it and let it warm up and check oil pressure then...Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

I was told not to use STP untill the new rings are seated. I will get a oil pressure gauge and double check mine, although it is a new gauge. The tractor was not runnin when I got it and the guy I bought it from bought it from another feller who gave up on it. I have already checked the pump but I will do it again and check to see if the bottom is flat as suggested by Andy.

Don't be too hasty. Pull the pan and check the oil pump. It may just need the bottom cover flattened.

Maybe the oil pan is dented in and the pickup screen is up against the bottom?
This happened on American Hot Rod...the oil pan was too close in relation to the screen and there was zero oil pressure.

Hey paul I watched the same show It did not sound quite right to me. I dont know what kind of motor they were using on these tractors the pickup screen floats and picks up from the top of the pan I beleve so it does not get sediment and water and such it pivits up and down So your pan would have to be crushed pretty much on on of these to do that. The thing that gets me about those shows is I watch American Chopper pretty often and Vin,Vance or what ever his name is is supposed to be mechanicly inclined hes the one that soups up everything. Well when he was doing the Mikey Vinny Bike I think He did a 103 CU upgrade on a harley motor and got it all done and it would not fire up. This is what gets me he spent hours working on that bikes ign changing parts and everything could not figure why it would not fire rechecked his wireing harness witch I think came from harley one that he did not make all of anyways. And just about cryed when he had to push it to the stage with it not running maybe he did cry and they did not show it. But anyways the point here is He spent all that time trying to figure out his mistake for getting it to spark and it turned out to be harley gave him push rods that were to long and were holding the valves open so there was not compression on that cylinder or both. COME ON NOW he never checked the plugs for spark????He played with the ign for hours when nothing was wrong with it, Sound kind of rediculas to me. He has built and started enough bikes you would think that it would sound different turning over without commpression also. I dont know I think alot of these things are just made for TV veiwing. Sorry for rambling I had teeth pulled yesterday and am on some pretty good drugs". TAKE CARE JON

My 300U pan is dented in terribly yet still has excellent oil pressure and makes no internal noises.Guess I got lucky with this one.
However,I will be removing it and bashing that sump back out sometime.....
