Hello : Will a 350 farmall diesel fit in a 504 gas (153ci) tractor ? I had run an earlier post thinking the diesel tractor was a 450 (bad info) I have now learned it is indeed a 350 farmall...anyone have ci size and Hp info on this diesel ?

There are more things to be addressed here than just cubic inches and horsepower. The Farmall 504 and 350 were totally different families of tractors. I seriously doubt that the diesel engine could be swapped into the 504, and even if it could, why would you? Why not just use the 350 as it is? It would be a total shame to take a running Farmall 350 diesel and knock it in the head, there were not that many of them made.

Rusty: You know better than that, any engine that will bolt up to 300, 350, 460 and 504 rear chassis will bolt to all of them. For front of engine mounts doner should be from Farmall or Utility which ever you a installing engine in. He will need some modificatoin on shroud, radiator hook up, breather and possibly front engine mount, (Farmall only for front engine mount) but all quite minor.

To the question why would one knock 350 on head, I think someone else did that. Larry is wanting to buy an engine for his 504. I earlier advised him to go 300 or 350 engines, 504 diesel and he might even investigate 239 fron a 544. Anyhow, I would take rear chassis of 504 over the rest, you come up with modern day type tractor with factory 3 point, much better hydraulics than 300, 350 or 460. 460 engine is out due to length. I based my advice on fact that if Larry is going to spend cash on 504 he may as well go to a sleeved engine, gas would be good, diesl even better.

The engine and clutch assembly is all that is available...the rear end is out of the 350 and complete tractor is not for sale

Remember, the 350 diesel is a Continental, not a IHC. Parts are expensive and hard to find.

Guys : Thanks for all the info ...probably going tonight to listen to engine run...It is a Continental that has been rebuilt except for the pump...motor is to start good cold and has good power...rear end went out twice (tractor pulls)I want to mow with mine and drag some fire wood. will probably have a 504 gas for parts if someone needs them.

Larry: Keep in mind what Harold has told you. That 350 diesel engine was not built by IH. One of the very few times they did that. It is a Continental and I know of a couple of those engines just a few parts missing and owners cant find what they need. One guy has been shopping for close to 10 years.
Take any of the other engines I suggested but run from that one.
