I have a rusted out rear rim on my 50 H leaking calcium and wanted to know if calcium is needed when I buy the new rim. I use this tractor for pasture mowing, no plowing. It has wheel weights on both sides so would I be sacrificing traction without the calcium? Thanks

NY maybe a little far, but thanks for the offer. I have a possible place in South Central PA I'm going to check. Thanks again

Fluid in the tires helps lower the center of gravity a little and provides "rolling inertia" that you won't get with adding iron.

That being said, I HATE fluid because it rots out rims, makes repairing tires a pain in your neck (and sometimes other parts of your body), and makes the engine work harder just to move the tractor. Unless you are going to work on steep slopes or do heavy tillage the fluid can effectively be replaced by iron.

I have an M with 15.5-38 tires, no fluid, three sets of iron on it, and a DuAll 325 loader. The only time I need more traction is when I'm moving bales when there is snow on the ground. Then, I chain it up.

My nickel's worth...

Farmer John:
I wouldn"t do it. I dumped the fluid out of my tires last fall and haven"t regretted it for a minute; I put weights on to make up for it and now my rims won"t rust out like they had been.

I plum hate fluid in tires , myself i like the iron better when you need the weight then hang it when you don't stack it in the barn . Back many moons ago we were farming a bunch of rented ground all over and lots of road travel just befor spring plowen i put a new ste of all trac field and roads on and had them loaded plus 5 weights on the land side and 4 on the furrow side by the end of harvest them tires were shot next set we did away with the fluid and got 5 years out of them when i needed more traction when plowen i would just pull the traction control up a couple notches.
