I just bought a 6" Sunshine Line by Modern, can anyone tell me how i"m supposed to get to the blade pins to change the blades? There is no access hole in the deck and only about a inch or less between the stump jumper and the deck from the underside. Any help appreciated.

I agree with Jeffcat, some excellent advice. I have a mower with a deck hole but it is still easier to hang the mower up on the loader and then access to removing the blades is easy. Remember that if you think an access hole will be helpful it will take about 30secs with the torch to make one. Mike in Exeter Ontario

Do like the Johnny Deere dealer down the street. Park next to a big tree and unhook the unit. Couple of guys flip it on its side and chain it to the tree. BIG wrench and air gun. When you sharpen these blades they must balance! If the blades are in good shape you can take a few measures here and there and match them up. lay a welding rod or such on a hard floor and put them side by side. They should teter at the same point. Also weigh them on a GOOD kitchen scale. I have digitals for hi vac work. Sounds silly but the machine will run much smoother. The correct angle on these blades is a compound! Look at a new blad and see how it was done.Kind of looks like the lead is 45 and the rest is 30. This make the edge last longer. When all tuned up they cut quite well. Jeffcat

Guess I should have gave you a little more info, the pins go through the stump jumper from the bottom, that puts the nuts on top and there isn't even room to get a 15" cresant in there at them, the bottom side is just a round headed pin, I might be able to get a small cutting torch at the nuts but no way go knock the old pins out or tighten the new ones up. I have never had the stump jumper off of one are they hard to get off? I bet it is rusted to the gear box shaft. Any Brainstorms appreciated, PS leaning it up against a post is how I have it but still no cigar. Dave
