While my neighbor was removing his water pump off of his H, he didn't unhook the battery and had the generator wires off and resting on the steering shaft or rocker cover. And now the charging system does not work. He drove the tractor over and I looked at the regulator which seemed to me to have a burnt coil inside. Tried polarizing it again without any luck. What are some easy checks or should I just replace the regulator and see what happens. How does a guy motor the generator to see if its alright. thanks chris

To polarize the system touch a jumper from the ARM term on the gen to the BATT term on the reg. If that doesent make it charge with engine running ground the field term on the gen. If it still doesent charge the gen is bad. If it charges with the field grounded then the reg is bad.

Wait for some others to drop in. I think it is take a jumper from the F "field" terminal to case ground. Hook the positive jumper cable to the A " armature" terminal. Now take the negative jumper and touch the case of your generator. It will make some sparks so watch out! It should run. Been about 20 years since I did one on the farm. Changed all of the tractors over to altinators. Jeffcat
