are there 2 different distributer discs for the f-4? i have 2 mags and one disc has the brass insert centered between 2 of the bakelite pin holes. the part number on the back of the disc, not the gear, is 21356-DX. the second disc has the insert closer to the right pin hole and there is no part number on the back of this one. Wouldn't this change the way the mag is timed?

Probably, that same mag was made in a 6 cylinder version too and your disk could be from one of those. Yes the difference would change the mag timing but I suppose you could compensate by putting the gear in a different notch. Sure might be confusing to someone else later on though. I think I have som NOS disks if you need one. On the other hand the brass is quite thick and you can sand it smooth again. I use a sheet of sandpaper on a flat surface and just keep turning the piece in my hand to keep it true and sand away. the disk and brass are soft and you can remove quite a bit of material in a hurry.

The rotor will not change the timing of the spark, the points do that. Just have to have the rotor timed so it can reach the brush on the cap throughout the timing range if the cam is movable like the one in the E4A.

Wes, are you talking about the brass rivits that hold the disk on the gear (pin holes) ? I have one laying here thats off a F-20 and the brass insert is centered between two of the rivits. I've never taken a disk off the gear, didn't know you could. There's a timing mark on the gear about 11 teeth past the tooth lined up withe the insert. ken
