Super C Fast Hitch problem

I have a 1953 Super C with fast hitch. Ever since I got it, the hitch goes up nicely but the motor has to work to put the plow down and the hitch goes very slow. If I switch the lines it switches the problem so it goes up slow and down nice. When I eliminate the check valve it works nice both ways. I replaced all the parts in the check valve. No help. Can I operate without the check valve? Is there something I am missing in repairing this thing? Thanks, Bob Burry

I think that system was designed that way to keep
it from dropping and damaging an implement and for safety too. Hal
PS: My Super C did the same thing.

This is normal as it has to POWER DOWN thru the check valve on the hitch , it is a safty valve that will not let the fast hitch just drop if ya blow a hose or line and also helps hold the hitch in the up posision.

I also have a 53 Super C that had the same problem. I don't know how anybody could use it like that. The problem is in the check valve. After lots of attempts to fix that and after scratching most of my hair out, I drilled out two of the ports where the hoses screw in. If you got the valve apart in your hand you can see that two of the four hose ports could be opened up some with a drill bit. That's what I did, don't remember how much, maybe a size or two bigger dill bit. It's worked fine for probably six or eight years now. It can set for a couple months at a time and the hitch never drops as it would over night if you eliminated the check valve. I'm not going to tell you do that but you can look at that valve a little closer and do what you want. Jim

That check valve is there so that if the hose lifting it breaks, the hitch will not fall and hurt someone, etc.

That is the way it is supposed to work. The check valve keeps the plow, hitch, or whatever is attached to the Fast Hitch from sinking. The hydraulic system has to build pressure to release the check valve. Sounds like it is working just fine.

It sounds like my fast hitch is working, but it is so slow going down. What can I do to speed it up? What will happen if I run it without the check valve?
