I got my 656D running and am now trying to track down my TA issue. First, I am not 100% the tractor has a TA - the lever on the left of the control console looks like a TA control, but is marked high/low/neutral down toward the base? Is this the way it came from the factory?

I have a factory service manual and the TA lever adjustment is out for sure - I am going to adjust it later. I also
wanted to pull the inspection plate to take a look and see if I have a TA and if so, to measure the clutch release clearance. Sorry if these questions seem silly - the tractor is new to me. Can I remove one of the bottom inspection covers and take a look or do I need to remove the battery box etc. to take a look?

Thanks again.

Is the tractor a gear drive or a Hydro? Hydro's will have a high/neutral/low lever on the left and the forward/reverse/speed control lever on the right. Gear drives will have the TA on the left and 5 forward/ 1 reverse on the right.

Sorry about that - an International 656 D with regular gear transmission - no hydrostatic. Shift on the right and a control on the left that is either high/low/neutral or a TA that doesn't work. FYI, the linkage on the left shift looks like the TA shift in the service manual - they don't have a picture of the hi/low so I don't know what I am looking for.

Thanks, Tip

I believe International 656 and 2656 were available with high-low range, however, this option was not available on Farmall 656 which was available with or without TA or with hydrostatic drive.

Tip,

You didn't say if your tractor is an International or a Farmall.

Local red shop was telling me the other day that he had just bought one that was equipped with some kind of a Hi/Lo box and it was not a T/A at all.

Dunno,

Allan

Thanks Alan - it is an International - believe '68. I am guessing that the raised cover in your picture is the TA access cover. I don't believe mine looks like that - need to go and take a look.

From the service manual, IH made the tractor with a hi/lo tranny. I may have that transmission in the tractor. I will post more when I know more.
