I rebuilt the motor with help from all of you good peopleTHANKS. After initial start up first it smoked i thought excessive. I completely rebuilt everything except inj pump. never even check the timing of that. At high rpms it would break up a little. so checking timing found supposed to be at 14btdc and it was at 12 i adjusted and it sounds great smoke is slim to none my only question is as i was running it up a pretty steep hill not to bad in hi 3 ta in low and it smoked very little black and slowly died i had to stop go into hi2ta in low to get up the hill am i expecting to much or should it have more power than that. how do you turn the actuall bocsh inj pumps up more any thoughts would be great thanks

Give this company a call in the morning. They rebuild Bosch pumps and may be able to tell you how to adjust the pump to increase fuel to to your engine. Their toll free number is 1-800-823-4444 or email info@usdieselparts.com. Hal

Trent,

They smoke black when they pull hard and I guess it depends on what you call a pretty steep hill.

I live up here in the hills and mine won't even begin to pull up this hill in 5th, stick back (smokes black like a banschee). But, it'll pull about anything else in 4th Hi.

Is your air cleaner okay?

Dunno,

Allan

Now i live in the hills of Ohio and if a 706 with a 310 in it won't pull the hills in road gear with a light load then it is a sick puppy . One of my old cliants had a 756 that was a sick puppy and would not pull and empty silage wagon up a small hump in road gear even with the stick back that was before i looked at it the timming was off and the fuel was weened back and it was only maken 53 hphalf hour later it was knocken down 105 and it would haul the mail

how do you know the fuel was leaned back?? just by the adjustment of the screw. I'm having problems finding my thermo stat and housing for this early style 310d may end converting to new style with elbow and front engine plate. all for a thermo then when i get it up to 160 180 we'll find out for good about the power. thanks
