i have broken off the adapter for the temp. gage that goes into the head.can anyone tell me if it is threaded into the head or pressed.also where can a guy pick on up at.what is the best way to get the broken one out. thanks in advance. tim

I did the same thing...some good heat from a propane torch and an easy out...it had me worried there for a minute.

It is just a bushing reducer that you can pick up at any hardware or auto parts House some are brass and some are BlackIron I broke one off myself and used a easy out to remove,Mine was 1/2 inch to 3/8 reducer

It IS NOT just a "bushing reducer that you can pick up from a harware store".

It is similar to a pipe reducer bushing, in that the OD is threaded pipe thread, but the inside is threaded with a finer thread than pipe thread, and it has a "step" inside, beyond the threads, that the sender bulb bottoms against.

It should be no problem for a CNH dealer to get a replacement.

The fitting that you are talking about was allready made on the Temp gauge that I bought,Mine also has the standard mpt bushing.
This may not be original but both my IH have the same type.

Exactly right Bob. Been there, done that. I did put a tank heater in while I was at it. Works slick as a trout.
