Governer adjustment on Farmall H

Does anyone know how to adjust the governer on a Farmall H, 1943 model. I know in the past someone put another governer on it and it was played with. The tractor will not idle down, but will accelerate to wide open fine. One old timer said the governer was not wore. Converted tractor from gasoline to LP. Thought the problem was in the gasoline carb, but maybe not.

Thanks...

Hi Wayne you really should pick up an IT shop manual there are a few little adjustments but any ways open the side plate and there are two set screws in the govener one hits at idle and one hit at fullm throttle you need to adjust the one on top so it idles for you also linkages can be adjusted the one on bottom you adjust with full throttle so it just hits and make sure there locked down good. Wayne,

Dont know if I can be of any help or not but here goes. I have adjusted the governer on my A but never the H that I have. I do Know that there is a screw on the tube coming out of the governer to the carb looking right at you. You can adjust this screw to idle the tractor up or down. If the screw gives no response then the tube could be out of the groove in the carb. which could cause the governer to not work. If you have recently replaced the carb then this could be your problem! Hope this helped.

Thanks y'all for the help. I have a real slow computer but finally got into the achives. I know the shaft is in that knotch okay. Most likely mis adjustment is not letting the butterfly close all the way in the idle position.

I think investing in the I & T shop manual is my next step.
