Here's how I received my new pistons from A&I. Would you install them "as is"? Don't think so.

I would not even consider installing them, they need to go back to A&I. I just got an in-frame kit in today, they looked real good, just must have been a slip up. They will stand behind them, that will be no problem for you.

The IH ones weren't like that at all. I couldn't tell you if they were forged or not, but it was easy to see where someone had been over them with a grinder or deburring tool. A little work with a few files cleaned up the odd one.

Those look pretty rough. I'd send them back especially if Jay's friend bought the same brand. I hate fixing things twice.

Well that is the quality that ya get these days . The new junk is not forged it is just plain old cast alu. and they tell ya that it is better but for who ??// them because it costs them less to make . And they probabley came from acroos the pond in big box and got repaced here . The last one that we got from Case I H were cast and the same thing that i could have got else where for over half the cost but the customer wanted the real thing and i figured that we should have got the same that was in it from the factor wrong..

I have never seen "new" pistons look like those. Maybe somebody just forgot to clean them up? What else did they forget to do? I would send them back.

Those ridges are are great stress risers. Great places for cracks to start or cause preignition problems. Might be a good idea to smooth them out with a die grinder or return them and get different ones.
