Throwout bearing on ’49 H is bad. Anybody know a secret on how to get to it without having to split the tractor in half.

Just click on over to my web site. I have a link that shows step by step how to replace a clutch in a H.

CnHman, Riverbend is correct. Take every other bolt out of the clutch 3of6 and put them back into the holes inside the ring , this keeps the clutch and pressure plate together for removal, then take out the other three, slide the clutch off of the spline, turn it sideways and bring it out. Get yourself an old pillow to lie on, may as well be comfy on your back. I think there are three bolts on the universal as well..its not a bad job and it beats having to split the tractor. You are sure it is the bearing and not the clutch fingers requiring adjustment..about 3/16th clearance but what is important is they are all set the same. Blue Ribbon Service manual covers it all,I-T and Owners Manual cover it too....Good Luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

You don't have to spilt the tractor to get the clutch out of an H. Remove the hydraulic pump, remove the clutch fork shaft, disconnect the clutch universal joint, and unbolt the release bearing carier. The IT manual covers it...
